SPECIAL TIP:

All About Hearing Treatments

People don’t realize how important their sense of hearing is until it is gone. Sadly, the majority of people, as they grow old and age will likely lose their sense of hearing little by little or even completely for some. What the causes of hearing disorders and how to treat them are the important information a person needs to know.

Hearing loss is a very big deal as it is the most common birth defect among babies. It also doesn’t matter how old you are as both children and adults are susceptible to losing their hearing. Some of the other causes are trauma, noise pollution and being sick with another disease.

A person can lose their sense of hearing by being exposed to loud environmental noises regularly. Airports, concerts, crowds or anything else for that matter can lead people to lose their sense of hearing. Firing a gun is also very taxing on the ears as the sound levels are very high.

Hearing aids are a common and proven way to effectively treat hearing impairment. There is also no shortage in the kinds of hearing aids available as there are at the least 10 different classifications. One similar trait among all hearing aids is that it is an electro acoustic device that collects and amplifies sounds.

The hearing aid can be categorized easily by looking at where the device is worn. Hearing aids worn behind the ear are called BTE and these are made up of a case, a tube and ear molds. While some hearing aids can be damaged by moisture and earwax, BTE aids cannot as it is placed outside the ear and only the ear mold is at risk.

Another type of hearing aid is what is called a bionic ear which is basically an inner ear or cochlear implant. The device is implanted behind the ear of the person, under the scalp area. This inner working of this device basically collects, converts and transmits sounds from the surrounding into our brain through electrodes.

A cochlear implant is made up of a microphone, speech processor, transmitter, receiver, stimulator and many tiny electrodes. Cochlear implants are for the average person, extremely expensive and will cost an arm and a leg. The price isn’t the only thing that will stop a person, as the hearing history, health, gender and so forth are checked before one is qualified for it.

Doctor’s are also excited by a new form of technology called gene therapy. The annoying thing with hearing aids is the need to replace the expensive batteries it has, with gene therapy all these are gone as everything is natural. Being years away, a person cannot yet hope that gene therapy is the answer to their problems.
